About our data

The directory is built from open and licensed data only. We never copy another site's descriptions or user reviews, and every page lists the sources behind its facts in a line at the bottom. Ratings shown on a fragrance are source aggregates on a 0 to 10 scale, with the number of ratings.

Correction policy

If something is wrong, it should be fixable by the people who know. On every fragrance page, Suggest a correction lets you propose a new year, concentration, gender, perfumers, notes, name, brand or photo. You sign it with your account, so everyone can see who suggested it, and it goes to a moderator.

An accepted correction overrides the source value, shows "edited by" with your name next to it, and is never overwritten when we refresh the data from our sources. A rejected one is simply closed, with a reason when the moderator gives one. Pages show how many corrections are waiting.

Photos you upload when you list an item are yours. When a fragrance has no photo, your listing photo is offered to the moderators as the directory photo, with your name as the credit. Fragrances that are not in the directory yet can be added from the listing form; they stay private to you until a moderator accepts them.

Names and facts are not claimed as ours. Where a source has an unclear license, we say so below and we keep it separate so it can be replaced.

Sources and licenses

Where the directory data comes from

The DeMarkets fragrance directory is built only from open or openly licensed sources. We import facts (names, houses, years, perfumers, notes, accords, aggregate ratings) and openly licensed photos and brand summaries. We never copy another site's descriptions or reviews, and we do not scrape fragrance sites that forbid it. Every fragrance page shows which sources contributed to it. Our own descriptions are generated from these facts and are marked as ours.

Sources we looked at and do not use

  • Datasets derived from Fragrantica, Basenotes or Parfumo that carry no license, a non-commercial license, or no provenance. We do not scrape those sites.
  • Openverse: its robots rules exclude automated image search.
  • The IFRA Transparency List: no open bulk data in a usable form yet.

Corrections

Facts in the directory come from the sources above and can be wrong or out of date. Signed corrections are live on every fragrance page: open "Suggest a correction", change the field, and sign it with your DeMarkets account. A moderator reviews each one. Accepted corrections override source values and show who made them. Some concentrations and genders are read from the fragrance's own name (an "Eau de Toilette" or "pour Homme" in the name); a source or an accepted correction always wins over those.

Automated access

Our import scripts identify themselves as DeMarkets-directory-bot, respect robots.txt, and fetch at most one request per second from any site.

About

Every trade is backed by a deposit, and every review is earned and yours to take anywhere.

How trust works

  • Deposit. Both sides put a small, refundable deposit down.
  • Protected payment. Money is held until the buyer confirms.
  • Sealed reviews. Hidden until both sides have written theirs.
